What is the cost for a financial consultation? We offer a complimentary consultation, either over the phone or in person, with no obligation. We're happy to discuss as many details about your unique financial situation and goals as you'd like.
What is your minimum investment amount for new clients?Regardless of your investment portfolio size, we welcome the opportunity to talk with you about your unique situation to see if we can assist with you with financial planning or investment management. If we think another advisor might be a more appropriate fit, we'll refer you to someone we know and trust.
Are you a fee-only or fee-based advisor? There are two common terms to describe how an advisor is paid: fee only and fee based. We've found many investors don't completely understand the differences in service and advice they can expect from fee-only or fee-based advisors. Here's an overview to help you understand.
Fee only is just what it sounds like—an advisor is paid only via a fee. Some fee-only advisors are paid a percentage fee for your assets under their management, while others do not manage your investments—they are paid an advisory fee simply for advice (they are not licensed to make trades). Additionally, fee-only advisors are not licensed to sell or service any commissionable products, such as some insurance, annuities, and retirement plans. If you already own any of these, a fee-only advisor will not be able to service them for you.
Most fee-based advisors are also paid a management fee for your assets under their management. Additionally, they hold licenses that allow them to sell and service products that are available in the commissionable world, such as some insurance, annuities, and retirement plans. Oftentimes products that are commissionable can be cheaper because the advisor is paid a one-time commission versus an ongoing management fee. But it's important to ensure that an advisor who sells you a product is also licensed to service it long term.
The most important thing to understand about fee-only versus fee-based advisors is what type of service you're receiving.
We are fee based. Our primary focus is fee-based investments, meaning we are paid a fee based upon your assets under our management. Additionally, we can service and sell commissionable products (which can be cheaper for you) that are in line with your personal financial plan. We offer some commission-based products as part of our tactical asset allocation investment strategy because we believe these types of products are integral to reducing your risk and diversifying your asset base. Any advisor concerned with your best interest will be happy to disclose which investments are fee based versus commission based.
What are your management fees? For the vast majority of our portfolio, we charge a management fee—a percentage based upon your total assets under our management. We're happy to share our fee schedule with you in your complimentary consultation.
